I’d never created any visual art before picking up a paintbrush in 2010, aged 37, and am entirely self taught. The powerful responses to my work gave me the confidence to approach a gallery, and since then my work has attracted considerable praise and sold internationally. I work full-time as an artist and can’t imagine not painting - I love it!
I aim to create a feeling of ease and release in my work and my studio, and hope the viewer feels this as well in some way. Experimenting with colour is one of the main ways I try to achieve this - I’m interested in how it can affect the feeling of a space and how, when combined with a subject, can change the viewer’s mood. I want people to feel uplifted when they see my work and my hope is that the viewer takes something new from a painting every time they see it.
